NOBODY TOLD ME THERE WAS GOING TO BE 1,000 TICKS

PER SQUARE FOOT IN MAY AND JUNE!!

That wasn’t the kind of bug I planned to be bit by!

  1. That sunset reflection is to die for! You be careful of those ticks! Don’t want to hear about your lyme disease in future posts! Oh, I know you are having a wonderful time, ticks aside — this is your special place, future cabin spot, right? Can’t wait for the story.

Hi Jeanie – no lyme disease!! You can’t even see the ticks that spread that, they are so tiny. Yuck!
Lily River is the special place, and outside of ticks, I really enjoyed being there. The surrounding country is gorgeous – so many lakes and National Forest. Beautiful.

  2. Oh, the pictures are just gorgeous! Makes me want to do two things: first, get out on the open road myself, and second, go out on the road vicariously by watching Elizabethtown. Seeing your pics makes the wonderful music from that film pour into my head. I hope you are having a wonderful time!

Remember that song, “Hit the Road, Jack”? That’s what keeps going through my head! It was a wonderful respite from everyday life – and here I am, back in reality. Oh well. Elizabethtown? Will have to check that out, too.

  3. I have fallen into that sunset picture and am never coming out. Not ever. Can’t wait for the story. Enjoy, enjoy!

Thanks, ds. I did truly enjoy – thank you. And the sunset – I just couldn’t stop snapping photos, it was so glorious. I have fifty sunset photos!! Mother Nature is so clever.

  4. Such pictures!!!! what a treat. (except the damn bug but even so, it’s a good picture). I love the rush of the treetops in the sky as you fly down the road. and the trees reflected in the water? exquisite. every one. the flowers. Nice. Looking forard to your next entry!

    Thanks, Oh!!

  5. I live with so much water and sky that, even though your photos of those are wonderful, it was the fiddleheads that caught and held me. I’ve not seen one in years, and they’re such tiny little bits of perfection. A fern uncurling is like anything else in its first stages – all potential and energy and impulse.

Looking at the ferns, I can’t help but think of Dylan Thomas:

The force that through the green fuse drives the flower
Drives my green age; that blasts the roots of trees
    Is my destroyer.
And I am dumb to tell the crooked rose
My youth is bent by the same wintry fever…
    Ahhhhhhh.
I was so pleased, when I stepped on my land for the first time in spring, to see that there were ferns unfurling. They are one of my favorite woodland plants. I was also pleased to see the trilliums… and I wonder what will be blossoming on my next visit. I just hope the ticks are gone 🙂
