December 4th – Fourth day of Advent

December 4, 2008

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen Click on the title of the song.  I hope you are able to open up some kind of player on your computer, because this is a lovely holiday song.  Let me know if you can hear it – you might have to be patient for it to open.

In 1991, The Chieftains recorded The Bells of Dublin with a variety of guests, including Jackson Browne, Elvis Costello, Marianne Faithful, Nanci Griffith, Rickie Lee Jones, and Burgess Meredith.   It is titled for the twelve bells of Christchurch Cathedral Dublin, which date back to 1738 – the largest bell weighs over 2.5 tons.  The bells are also featured on this CD.

This is my favorite collection of Christmas music.  On the day after Thanksgiving, I allow myself to get this CD out and play it.  I listen to it continually until Christmas, and never tire of it.

Lovely! I’ll have to look for this CD – thanks!

Hi Bobbi. I sure do recommend it if you enjoy holiday music. The Chieftains never disappoint, and on this album they have really put together some beautiful tunes. The song by Elvis Costello is quite funny.

I have The Chieftains version of this on my Ipod! Isn’t it great??
So many deliciously snowy posts here this week. I’m having a ball looking, and reading, around!

It is a great holiday cd, Pamela. I can’t listen to it too many times in December.
And I think we are supposed to get more snow tomorrow – I love it!!

This is also one of my favorites. What a group of talent there! Love Irish anything, but this is special. Thanks for telling others about it.

I’m flying through posts and haven’t commented on all, but I’ve read all and looked at magical slide shows. This is a fabulous holiday blog!

Hi Jeanie. It really is my favorite holiday cd. So many talented singers and a wide variety of instruments. I love all of the different pipes played.
Thanks for “opening” the doors of my Advent calendar. It has been fun for me.
